Strange Fruit Hanging
A long form PSA that satirizes & parodies Kanye West’s Blood on the Leaves while paying tribute to the many victims of police brutality, racial profiling, and the unjust criminal justice system.
This emotionally and politically charged music video features a collection of archival and home video footage framed by more typical hip-hop performance sequences and three metaphorical, semi-narrative scenes. I shot this framing footage, taking advantage of interesting locations and available light for the performances, while creating more specific lighting effects and camera moves for the semi-narrative sequences. Strange Fruit Hanging is being released online in hopes of raising awareness and inspiring social change.
